Group Therapy Riding Program
Sunshine Coast RDA provides therapeutic and recreational riding programs for both children and adults with a disability throughout the year. Our calendar year runs in conjunction with the school terms.
We offer programs where our goal is to cater for individual needs, tailoring specific long and short term aims and outcomes for each rider. These programs are designed to enhance and develop a range of positive physical, emotional and social outcomes over a period of time.
We design our programs with two key areas in mind:
Therapeutic - where the main goal is to use the skills needed to ride a horse to improve physical strength, to motivate, improve self esteem, confidence and independence that riding a horse gives. Independence on horse back produces a "can do" positive attitude to all aspects of life.
Recreational - where the main goal is for the rider to experience the freedom of the outdoors and fresh air from a wonderful vantage point and healthy benefits of riding a horse.
The Sunshine Coast RDA is required to follow special guidelines to ensure the safety of our clients, our volunteers and the well being of our horses. Enrollment involves an initial assessment of each client, medical approval and insurance cover before riding commences.
Our riding programs operate on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings between 9:00am and 1:00pm. Due to the limited number of horses, coaches and volunteers there is a waiting list and riders can only be accepted when a place becomes available.
